Jamal Edwards
UK Entrepreneur (UK)
Biography
While Jamal Edwards would describe himself as the average 21-year old, few others would. One of the new faces of UK entrepreneurialism, over the last five years Jamal has grown his youth broadcasting channel, SB.TV, from the inner confines of his west London estate into an internationally renowned brand. Encapsulating the DIY ethos of the underground music scene that inspired the teen to pick up a camera in the first place, Jamal Edwards is responsible for documenting the rise of a new breed of previously ignored video stars. Notching up over 100 million YouTube views on the official SB.TV channel since 2006, it’s no wonder he’s now fronting his own Google Chrome advert alongside Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber or that SB.TV had a prime time fly-on-the- wall documentary series on T4. “I live in trainers, and have so many pairs I’ve lost count. At the moment I’m loving my Puma Suedes, as they come in so many colours and styles. I pretty much have a pair to match every cap and outfit.”

Benny Be Street
Editor (FR)
Biography
At 27 years old, I head the Be Street magazine which is distributed in 15 countries. Launched over four years ago, this quarterly magazine has become a leader in the urban and lifestyle print media market. A closer look at my bio shows how closely interlinked it is with the story of this magazine. It all started by meeting Shu, with whom I had an instantaneous connection, both on a professional level and on a personal one. Together, we decided to set up an advertising agency that we quickly decided to accompany with a magazine, which was initially free. Influenced and fascinated by all that is exciting in urban culture, I then defined three characteristics that define the historical crux of Be Magazine: art, fashion and music. The content has evolved with each new issue, but we have always offered an in- depth yet engaging approach. Our pages are regularly brought to life by events (concerts, parties, pop up shops...) that are entirely produced by the agency. We rapidly started thinking about launching a collection as an extension of our work. It was not merely a matter of transposing graphic design onto textiles, but also to make the most of a different medium with artists whose work had left its mark on the magazine. In the years to come, I aim at continuing to fly the Be Street flag and to extend our community across the entire world. " -

Dylan Hughes

Crate of the month
Dylan Hughes
Sneaker Collector (UK)
Biography
I was born in Ireland in 1980. I had a quiet country-life childhood, being interested in football and music from a very young age. It was about 1989 when my obsession with trainers began. I had my first pair of Nikes in about 1990, my first pair of Airs in 92, and my first Jordans in 1997 (which I still have), some six years late (I wanted Jordan VIs in 1991, SO BAD).
Having gotten a place to study footwear design at London' Cordwainers College—where the likes of Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo, and Patrick Cox attended—I moved to London in 1998. My sneaker collecting took precedence over the coming years and after cementing a position to work at a new store called Size? in 2001, I was firmly in the midst of the then- new "sneaker culture".
I have never been a typical collector as I have always had very specific criteria for what makes a shoe worthy. I have pretty much always stayed true to what I grew up wearing and lusting after, and my collection is a reflection of that, with, at a guess, 80% of it originally being released in the 90s. But, it is true that over the years I have amassed an insane Air Jordan collection that has always fluctuated with buying and selling, and currently stands at about 70 pairs. I have only ever bought Nike and the total count for every pair must be about 180, more perhaps, at this moment. Wait; there are two pairs in the post, so definitely over 180!
It is something I have ALWAYS been passionate about and no matter how many 'this year I am not buying any more kicks' New Year's Resolutions I make (I think I am on about nine pairs already this year, yowzers), I will ALWAYS be passionate about sneakers. As long as Nike and Brand Jordan are making the shoes I love, I will continue buying them, although I am running out of space/models I haven't already got at this stage… It is a lifelong obsession and it has outlasted every other phase I have gone through; and with every one of those phases I have always had a pair of Nikes on my feet- no questions asked.
